Inhale, Exhale

What is it about beauty
that makes us inhale a
deep breath
A sunrise breaking through
a hold of clouds wreathing
around around a majestic
sunset when evening comes
A waterfall so high tumbling
over the side of a mountain
pooling at the bottom
A rain forest full of adventure
beauty abound, the smell the
sound
A warm ocean with the whitest
of sands the colors, the clarity
Then we exhale

Touch

There is something to be said for touch
if seeing is not believing
hearing can be deceiving
and feelings are confusing
a touch alas is the affirmation
we have not yet left the earth

Memories

Memories are made of this.....
A song can trigger a memory
put a smile on your face
 dreams brings back things
you may have forgotten
 places you have been
before at an earlier time
a picture floods you mind
with happiness
seasons, spring, summer
and winter memories
so many memories taking
you to other places and times
as you drift off to sleep
a quick memory flashes
in the dark, but not
to be afraid, because
the lion sleeps tonight

Adventures

I remember camping in a tent
getting the perfect spot, setting
up the tent, then starting dinner
famished after getting things done.
The meat was tough, the corn on
the cob was burned, really burned.
After finding munchies to make up
for dinner, it had gotten dark, so
we decided to go to bed. After
settling in and about to dose off
i felt itchy, as it got worse, we
got a flashlight and seen we had
set up our tent on an ant hill.
After waking up my best friend
and telling her, as usual we laughed
uncontrollably. The rest of the night
was spent in the car. One of our many
adventures and great memories!

Divine

I wonder what it would
be like.....
the only presents under
a tree made of popcorn
berries, pine cones and
things made of nature
were home made,
Lot's of simple food
made from scratch,
singing carols on Christmas
Eve, laughing, reading
the story of how Jesus
was born from the bible,
Oh Night Divine!

The Refuge

We had all came to the desert
to try out our homemade go carts
speeding along without a care
the rain came out of nowhere
pouring, we could not see, as
we stopped there was an old
abandoned house, more like a
shack in a sense, small but a
place to take refuge. It smelled
of old books, wood and clothing
I ravaged through old books,
papers, things that had long
been left behind, i wondered,,,,
who, why, as i sat looking,
thinking.....

Hot And Cold

In the desert the mornings
you are almost always
greeted with sunshine
If you aren't aware of the
season, you would assume
it was warm outside
In the winter you open
the door and a blast of
frigid air takes you by
surprise. The crisp cold
air smells of the season
burning of wood as fireplaces
are keeping houses warm
and cosy. Taking a brisk
walk hurts your lungs even
though you are bundled up.
The sun still shining

Passions

A passion develops slowly
defining you
your inner voice says
I can do this
passions like life do not
come with an instruction
book
If you say "someday",
someday is not at all
Failures are simply
stepping stones

Curiosity

We are born curious
curiosity leads to
knowledge I feel
curiosity is more
important, it leads
us down new paths
opens more doors
we try new things
therefor curiosity
leads us to knowledge
With the amount of
curiosity I have
I should be a genius!

Stellar Nursery

Seen in a composite picture released November 7, the star cluster Cygnus OB2—the closest massive stellar nursery to Earth—glows with the energy of hundreds of young stars. For the picture, NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory stared across some 5,000 light-years and captured 1,500 stars pumping out x-rays (shown in blue). The Spitzer Space Telescope offered infrared imagery (red), and the Earth-based Isaac Newton Telescope provided optical wavelength-views (orange). (See the same view in x-ray, infrared, or optical wavelengths.)

Fascinating, not even the most advanced in my youth could have thought this
would be possible! Takes my breath away......

A Walk In The rain

I walked in the rain, there was
no umbrella to protect me but
I wanted it this way. My head
was bent, yet I found I yearned
to see beyond my own footsteps
If you want to see more in life
you must have the courage to lift
up your face, even in the rain

Humans

Humans are the only creature on earth
who seem to base there value and their
happiness on an image they see in the
mirror. Humans also believe they are
the most intelligent life form on the planet
I wonder.........

Fiddling Around

We fiddle with the clocks twice a year
for an hours worth of daylight, when only
milkmen and roosters are awake to
appreciate it, and use it to push back
sunset until one hour later in the day,
this arrangement is claimed to cut
electricity usage and reduce traffic
accidents
Confusing this body we live in, animals
feeding time and our usual patterns of life
one hour, 60 minutes, 3,600 seconds
my mind wonders why nature is not to be
left alone

As The Wind Blows

Trees turning colors
shades of yellow orange
and red, as the wind blows
they fall to the ground,
nature is preparing for
a long winter nap
They will return in the
spring with a yawn,
bigger, stronger, after
the rest it has taken

Om

The entire universe expands and contracts constantly,
and this pulsation creates a hum that for centuries people
have been vocalizing as Om. This chant reminds us of how
how we are connected to one another and to all that is.

Sounds

The sound of the universe breathing
waves on the shore
wind blowing through trees
the inside of a shell
a birds wings
the sound of the ebb and flow of
the ocean
the change of seasons
the movement from day to night

You Do Not

I see beauty In many things
that you do not
I feel feelings in things
that you do not
I love in ways
that you do not
I understand
in ways you do not
I have passions
you do not
All of these things
are mine alone
You cannot see through
my eyes, or hear through
my ears.........
Such a shame I cannot
share them as i see and hear

Hello Autumn

As i go for my early morning walk
i sense fall in the air, it is a slight bit
crisp. The smell is that of fall, folks
burning leaves as they are starting to
drift to the ground. It is refreshing from
the heat that will be rising in a while.
Enjoying it for the moment but somewhat
sad not preferring barren trees or plants.
As i walk along i shudder to think of winter
i am cold natured and prefer the spring
and summer. The cold winds stinging my
face and ears. Early morning walks become
later and later. The snow is beautiful and
doesn't usually stay but a day or two.
But for now i will enjoy the beauty of
what is around me. There is beauty in
Autumn and winter as well, with but the layers
of clothing i don't feel as free.
As i start on my second mile i must remove
my sweatshirt, it is warming up all to soon.

Look Up

Look up, get lost
in the universe
pictures in my
mind only seen
by pictures
Hubble giving
stunning photos
thinking about
Curiosity transmitting
back to earth
black holes,
northern lights
just look up and
wonder
the stars don't shine
if it isn't dark

Rock Man

Down by the ocean i stood and
watched this man stacking rocks
Ever so gently he would put odd
shapes, one small, one large.
It was if he was defying gravity.
After a bit he used cola cans as
well. He would take some down
and start again, never using the same
pattern or rocks. They stood as tall
as i am. I watched for the longest time,
he never lost patience if one would
fall. The look of concentration and
serenity upon his face put a smile
on mine.

The Mirror

For a fleeting moment
a glance in the mirror
who is this person
the years have gone
so quickly, the old
lady said this would
be, she was just
rambling again
now as the mirror
reflects this image
you get it

Feelings

Although we want to be
ourselves, we often are not
We reject our own feelings
when they are unpleasant
or wrong and when we are
defensive.
Feelings only stay forever
if we suppress them then
stay in our unconscious.
If we allow ourselves to feel
them as they come up in the
moment they run their natural
cause then they will eventually
dissolve.

In Dreams

In dreams you can go
anywhere you desire
seek anything, anyone
I can go to my favorite
place where the forest
meets the sea, memories
can be brought back as
if they were yesterday
Ahhh yes only in dreams

Over The Limit

They swim like fish
run like the wind
jump to new heights
pushing them selves
to there limit for the
pride of gold silver
and bronze

Well Said

The successful landing of Curiosity – the most sophisticated roving laboratory ever to land on another planet – marks an unprecedented feat of technology that will stand as a point of national pride far into the future. It proves that even the longest of odds are no match for our unique blend of ingenuity and determination

Energy And Power

I was heading off
to bed when I
heard noise outside
as I turned on the
outside light I
could see the trees
blowing fiercely
I opened the sliding
door and went out
the wind was warm
with a chill ever so
often
The pungent smell of
earthy rain, as i walked
out past the trees I felt
a few rain drops
In the distance lightning
striking the earth
I stood there in awe
at the power around me
energy you could feel
see and hear

In The Moment

Here and now

is to be in the moment

no where else

If you are in the past

or future you can not

be in the moment

you are awake

The mirror

I stare in the lake

my reflection

like a mirror

silent unmoving

at ease, unaware.

my thoughts are

peaceful, mind

at rest, just breathing

until the moon shares

my reflection in

the lake

Regrets

Whats done is done
it can never be undone
regrets are like pebbles
thrown in a calm lake
the serene pool of water
causes ripples in every
 direction, disturbing
distand still waters, every act
creats a ripple with no logical
end.

Wondering

I have waited for so
long to see the first
nesting of the humming
birds. To my disappointment
there are no eggs. There
are more nests than usual
last years rebuilt, all have been
abandoned, some never finished.
The birds still feed as usual,
playing and fussing as usual.
No answers to my wondering
no predator that i can see,,,,
Nature keeps me wondering

Tree Of Life

We are but a leaf
That lives for a season
Upon the tree of life
But when we are cast free
Our time is short
But its our time to live

Drifting

I will drift with the wind
I shall float upon the sea
The currents of time will take me
To places as I dream
The sunset will be my blanket
As I lay down to sleep
The clouds the pillows to rest my head

Another Game

A young Lad

The young lad joined
the army reserves, an
education in mind. He
wanted to be a Lawyer.
Things going well until
Desert Storm!
He was called to duty
to his surprise. Off to
boot camp, his wedding
put on hold. Destination
Kuwait. His normal life
became the unknown.
He married without the
big wedding that was
the originally planned.
He was gone for six
months, catching a
satellite to call his wife
when he was fortunate.
His life was forever
changed. Mentally
UN prepared for the
war the brought things
he would never imagine
leaving scars day after day.
When he came home, it
was bitter sweet. For such
a young lad going back to
the norm was not an easy
task. He had a wife, he had to
carry on as if the six months
was a job well done.
Not that easy as he found out.
I am proud of this man, he still
has the scars, that come and go
in his mind.
Now with three children a good
job, but still the scars show at
times. This wonderful man is
my Son in law,,,,,

Boogie Down

As i grabbed the boogie
board, hopped on to get
past some rocks i started
to float down stream.
Feeling relaxed, a sort
of freedom. After a bit
i realized the water was
flowing faster that i thought
it would. I got off the board
started to go back to where
i came from. This was going
harder than than i had counted
on. If i could have let the board
go, it would have been much
easier, but that thought was
dashed. I could see the look
on my grandsons face if i had
done that. Option 2, go to the
beach i was closest to, thinking
then i would have to walk back
over a hill on the burning sand
barefoot. No cell phone, humm.
I struggled a while longer making
little head way. I stopped for a
very short rest, when a speed
boat came buy and the waves
that it created gave me a giant
boost. As i came around the cove
of rocks board in hand, wondering
what it would have been like just to
keep flowing down and see where
i would end up.

In My World

Most have a talent
whether they know
it or haven't yet
discovered what
it may be. Talent
may be  natural
given or learned
by exposure.
As i look at the
artist work, the
singer of beautiful
words, the sculpting
of what's in a persons
mind, or the well thought
words of a poet,
admiration seeps in,
stimulating my senses.
I see what others may
not and visa versa.
In my world, it is
called beauty.

Desert flowers

Some think the desert
is not the most beautiful
place to visit. Beauty can
be anywhere, just look
around, there is beauty
in everything. I came
across a cactus with
large yellow flowers,
another with purple
ones. Stunning but not
to be reckoned with.
Then i wonder, how
do the bats get in there
to pollinate them.
So many mysteries of
a desert environment,
i enjoy looking for
unique plants and flowers
then trying to find out about
them for there is beauty
in everything.

Yellow Flowers

As i stroll through
the desert i see a
beautiful bright
yellow bunch of
flowers. I could not
resist, i plucked them,
still admiring the odd
shape. I brought them
home and put them
in a container on
the counter though
feeling guilty for
taking them out of
the ground. I wondered
back a while later
and laughed so hard
i thought i would
burst. There were bugs
everywhere, all over
the area. As i cleaned
up the mess, i thought
to myself, this is what
you get for taking it
out of the ground. I
could see mother nature
give me a wink.

Dark Night

In the dark of night
I walk, no moon
the sound of silence
the stars so bright
the balmy air so
fresh. The smell of
earth. I feel his presence
I talk a while in silence
Taking a deep  breath
not wanting to leave
this dark night

Experience

Finding yourself
not in your mind
not in a rational
response
Once you experience
you need no other
confirmation
One's own experience
in the journey of life
rather than in the
rationalizations of
logical thought

Nails And Boards

Nails and boards
thorns and blood
sounds of sobs with
each stroke as it
is driven deep
into the flesh
wrapped in white
left for dead
A plan understood
by one for you
and I

Sunny Faces

A single bright poppy
smiling to the sun
going to sleep at
night to wake up
to smile again when
the sun returns
flowing with the breeze
regal, waiting for the
others to join in the
sunshine to smile
along side

Brain Games

Our brains buzzing with
activity, ions moving in
and out of neurons.
The most powerful organ
often may miss fire creating
a person to go awry. If fed
drugs, some foods, it sends
signals to other parts of the body
in dislike. Extremely controlling,
breathing, hunger, thoughts.
This organ rather small for all
content and complexity
not to be reckoned with.

Spring

Excitement grows as
Spring comes near
trees are budding
early this year
the humming birds
seek out there food
the rabbits and squirrels
getting ready to have
there brood
I wait anxiously to
plant the flowers and
vines, to feel the dirt
in these hands of mine
the warm days are
teasing me as it get
cold again i can see
the forecast of another
snow coming just
maybe.
Nature has no rules
so i wait for her to
to settle down so
I can get my planting
in the ground

A Beacon

A church stands amongst
abandoned and torn down
buildings like a beacon, tall
strong and full life
people talk about re-newed
faith hearing a service
through the technology
of media that went out
all over the world.
A service touched
journalist saying it is so.
Amazing how God
intervenes.

A Service

For those who have never
been to a Black Baptist
service whether on Sunday
or a funeral, they have a
tradition of how they go
about praying, singing
and every now and then
and Amen comes as they
get louder not to worry
about the length of time
they take to get there message
out. As you watch and
listen you see the love you
feel the love. The unrehearsed
words come out as they are
caught up in there worship.
Enough to uplift the most
weary of souls.

In My Dream

In my dream
my best friend,
now gone, was
an adult with her
husband, children,
her mom, also gone,
were happy, what
really happened
didn't. no disruption
of there marriage
no suicide, nothing
as it was.
We went on with
our lives as if this
is the way it was
supposed to be.
As i woke up i
reflected on the
happiness with a
smile upon my face.

knowledge

We are taught when
we are young
as you grow experience
teaches
knowledge is an adventure
in order for it to grow
it must be fed and watered
like cultivating a garden
not to let it die of thirst

Not To Fast

To hear and not listen
To see and be blind
To breathe and not smell
There is such beauty in
this world, go to fast
and you will miss it

With Out Doubt

They did not partake of the
apple
would there have never been
doubt?
Would the earth had lived as
one?
Would there have been peace
and harmony,,,, forever?
Would all of the beauty and
serenity gone on as the norm?
                      OR
Did "he" know before hand
that they would be unable
to resist?

Trees And Leaves

The beauty of green leaves
the cooling shade
As fall arrives
they flaunt there
dazzle of exit
one blazing farewell
appearance, yellow
and brown. Then its
the bright light you see.
The ending is deception
the trees don't die, it's
natures way of renewing
itself, they just pretend
going out in style and
return in style, a new style
bigger, stronger, more
beautiful.
