Sentimental Journey

This time of year I always
get sentimental, the years
of youth and Christmas
takes me back to the years
of the Church I dearly loved.
The years that made me who
I am today, the times I will
always cherish. All of those
memories come flooding
through my mind, each one
leaves a fondness of that time
and the people that still
and forever will be in
my heart. Such good times
it leaves me with a longing
for those days,,,,still.

When it's over

In early October a mans
breathing stopped, it was
over. The suffering ceased
the pain gone as he took his
last breath. Sadness fill the
room along with relief, it
was over. Six months before
he was told it would be over.
They say it was for the best,
but things are not that simple.
Grief has many forms of taking
it's toll. The grown children
accepted it sadly but my dear
friend his wife has to grieve
her own way. I for the first
time since our childhood
cannot help her. I do as best
as i can which will never be
enough, reality is, it's over.
She will go on for there is no
choice, i will be with her,
listening as she expresses
her inner most thoughts, as
she knows its over.

Someone's Dream

Once someone's dream an
abandoned buillding is more
than 100 feel long and used
to be an egg ranch at one time
now the chickens have flown the
coop and the building dies a
little more each day

The Middle Of Nowhere

A tiny house alone in the
 middle of the desert with
only a single chair by a
broken window.
This was someones home,
someones life. If walls could
talk about the history of whom
ever lived in this one room
hand built shack. I sat there
in the chair and let my mind
run wild with what it may
have been like.

Nowhere

Sometimes you find yourself in
the middle of nowhere and
sometimes in the middle of
nowhere you find yourself,
not all who wander are lost

Clutter

Looking at this scene made me think that it
represents the mind. Clutter and darkness
often hides the view of what waits beyond

Peaceful Way Of Life

In the middle of the Mojave Desert
a field of alfalfa grows despite the odds,
it has been that way for years. Lucerne
being the common European grass,
hence the name of the small town
Lucerne Valley. For many years the
town it's self has remained small, but
people looking for a larger piece of
land, a quiet lifestyle have built large
houses with acreage as not to be
close to there neighbors. The folks
take the trip into Apple Valley or
Victorville to do there shopping
and to work, giving up convenience
for a peaceful way of life.

In The Heart

It crossed my mind
that maybe all of
life isn't lived in the
present, maybe
a tiny part of it
is lived in the heart

Antiques

If only antiques could talk,
what would they say. The
histories and mysteries of
what they know, the
places and families would
come alive again. I imagine
the old milk can or grandmas
vase I have could tell wonderful
stories. Looking at an antique
in a yard sale, I pick it up and
wonder where it had been,
what it could say to me if
only it could talk.

Best Friends

A best friend is someone
you can talk to about
anything, the most inner
thoughts, fears, things
not even a spouse could
be told. When you hurt
the other one hurts with
you. No matter what, there
are things that you can
not fix, only be there for
each other. Right or wrong
we stand by one another.
This next chapter in the
book of life is going to
be the most challenging
to date. I will be there
holding her and giving
comfort for there is not
going to be a good
ending. She will go on
with life, but we both
know it will never be
the same.

Free

As the sun starts to set
the dessert turns to a
purple hue. The clouds
give a stunning sunset.
As it turns dark the stars
cover you as if it were
a net of sparkles, it
becomes especially quiet,
that's when the mind
takes over and wanders,
from one thing to another
as free as the birds that
are now nested for the
night.

Grace

How you climb up a mountain
is just as important as how you
get down a mountain, and so
it is with life, for which many
becomes one gigantic test,
followed by one gigantic
lesson, in the end it becomes
down to GRACE, it's how
you accept winning and loosing,
good luck and bad luck, the
darkness and the light.

As The Wind Blows

The quiet dessert with it's many secrets,
and beauty, some seen and some not.
The wind cannot be seen but felt with
its harsh sting, blowing to and fro, one
direction then another, stinging ones eyes
with wind tears. You can find yourself
out in the middle of nowhere and sometimes
in the middle of no where you can find
yourself.

.A work of art which eludes discription

Caged Bird

BY MAYA ANGELOU
A free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wing
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn
and he names the sky his own

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

What Is A mother

Because a woman bore you
doesn't mean she was "motherly",
a mother is someone that tells
you, shows you in every way
that you are special, loved with
no exceptions, leaves you no
doubts. An Aunt like mine was
in my eyes and heart my mother.
She nurtured, taught, made known
her love. She is the person that
made me who i am today.
She never wavered, even as
i grew to adulthood, married
and had children, she was there,
always, even when we were
miles apart i could call and feel
the love flow over me. When
she died a piece of my heat went
with her. I visited her once a year
without fail. After her death i was
lost, i reached for the phone many
times to call only to remember,,,,,
So when Mothers Day comes
around i think with much love
and gratitude to the woman
whom i call MOM.

Words

Sometimes there are no words
just feelings that cannot be put
into words, the mind is sorting
out what the heart is feeling,
the two cannot convey these
into rational words.

In A definition

What defines an artist,
were artists only those
who created what was
perceived as the beautiful
or the shocking, those who
formed some piece of
work that delivered a
visceral punch, in painting
in music, literature or
theater, if so did that make
the rest of the world
nothing more than and
audience, passive observers
whose only contribution
was applause or criticism,
what became of the artist
without the audience....

Reality

I held a delicate, tiny nest in my hand today. I found it covered in a pile of spring leaves that I was sweeping in the backyard. It was so carefully designed with strong slender twigs to give it structure on all sides. Cradled underneath was a perfect basket-shaped hammock interwoven and laced with threads and tucked with tiny bits of downy fluff. I marveled at the fragile object as I turned it over and examined it with my fingers and wondered what happened to the occupants. Had they left their temporary home to fly away, or had the strong wind tumbled it to the ground? Or worse, had they been preyed on by another bird or a cat? Ah, the reality of a living in a fallen world.

And So On

The coyote stalks the cat,
the cat hunts down a bird,
the bird goes after the worm,
the worm eats waste, and
so on

Listen

When the air is still, listen
for the sounds that surround
you, to faint to be hear under
the noise of everyday life
So much goes on in the world
we are often to busy to notice,
listen,,,,,

Just Musing

Is there anything better than
lying in lush grass, aware of
the smells around you, musing,
with the flow of nature unaware
of your existence.

Cold Days

On even the coldest of days
I will find the sun's warmth and
see the beauty in patterns of light
on the snow and ice

Why

As children we have a sense
of wonder, always asking why?
There were so many things you
wanted answered. As you grow
are brains seek harder to find
answers to the questions that
plague our minds. Satisfaction
and accomplishment are the
rewards for answers to our
curiousity.

A Moment

In a fleeting moment a picture
crosses my mind, a memory
I had forgotten, putting a smile
on my face vivid as the time it
had happened

In A Book

The vibrant green of the
rolling hills of green grass,
the flowers so vivid, the
smell of damp earth, the
water in the streams also
have there own smell.
The ruins of long ago,
the castles with many
tales to tell. Farmers
working there land, the
pride of breeding horses
to be sold. All of this
beauty, fragrances, and
a story told and felt
as i read as if i were there.

Grief

Grief is a matter of the heart
and soul. grieve your loss,
allow it in, spend time with
it. Suffering is optional. Love
never dies and spirit knows
no loss.

Insight

Sharpen your insight and
be willing to trust what your
feeling inside they are rarely
wrong. To ignore them is
taking a chance, a gamble
as sure as a roll of the dice

True Friendship

A true friend is someone
you can call, or they can
call you day or night, be
there for them, share your
inner most feelings. Give
them the best of you, and
take the worse. Talk about
things without inhibitions.
Share the good times and
the bad. Laugh until it takes
your breath away. Reminisce
about old times and think
about the future, make plans
for things to come. I feel so
fortunate to have these friends
in my life, they will always
be there.....

Stardust

There's nothing more
awe-inspiring than nature,
a less tumultuous life, with
a fantasy to return to the
splendor of the forest, or
the ocean, or beside a lake.
These are universal urges
since nature is created by
the same source as we are,
we are made up of the same
chemicals as all of nature
we are stardust, remember,,,,

Wilderness

The shimmer of the sunrising
spreading it's melting gold
trickling through the trees
flickering it's glint on the
stream, brushing the green
valley below, birds sing
there morning song while
overhead in the wakening
sky a hawk soared, already
on the hunt. like something
out of a fairy tale the shadows
a small herd of elk slipped
 through the morning mist
veiling the trees like wisps
of smoke. Nothing more
magical or more real than
dawn in the wilderness

Childhood friends

As childhood friends, we grew up together
Swearing to be friends forever and ever
Sometimes we would argue and fight
Other times we would laugh and stay up all night
We went from playing games and toys
To talking and dreaming of different boys
My thought and feelings to you i would confide
Never having anything to hide
Friends we do remain
Things changing and things staying the same
To each other we listen and share
About each other we will always care

Darkness

The darkness is
nothing without
the stars and moon
the moon and stars
are nothing without
the darkness
