A young Lad

The young lad joined
the army reserves, an
education in mind. He
wanted to be a Lawyer.
Things going well until
Desert Storm!
He was called to duty
to his surprise. Off to
boot camp, his wedding
put on hold. Destination
Kuwait. His normal life
became the unknown.
He married without the
big wedding that was
the originally planned.
He was gone for six
months, catching a
satellite to call his wife
when he was fortunate.
His life was forever
changed. Mentally
UN prepared for the
war the brought things
he would never imagine
leaving scars day after day.
When he came home, it
was bitter sweet. For such
a young lad going back to
the norm was not an easy
task. He had a wife, he had to
carry on as if the six months
was a job well done.
Not that easy as he found out.
I am proud of this man, he still
has the scars, that come and go
in his mind.
Now with three children a good
job, but still the scars show at
times. This wonderful man is
my Son in law,,,,,

Boogie Down

As i grabbed the boogie
board, hopped on to get
past some rocks i started
to float down stream.
Feeling relaxed, a sort
of freedom. After a bit
i realized the water was
flowing faster that i thought
it would. I got off the board
started to go back to where
i came from. This was going
harder than than i had counted
on. If i could have let the board
go, it would have been much
easier, but that thought was
dashed. I could see the look
on my grandsons face if i had
done that. Option 2, go to the
beach i was closest to, thinking
then i would have to walk back
over a hill on the burning sand
barefoot. No cell phone, humm.
I struggled a while longer making
little head way. I stopped for a
very short rest, when a speed
boat came buy and the waves
that it created gave me a giant
boost. As i came around the cove
of rocks board in hand, wondering
what it would have been like just to
keep flowing down and see where
i would end up.

In My World

Most have a talent
whether they know
it or haven't yet
discovered what
it may be. Talent
may be  natural
given or learned
by exposure.
As i look at the
artist work, the
singer of beautiful
words, the sculpting
of what's in a persons
mind, or the well thought
words of a poet,
admiration seeps in,
stimulating my senses.
I see what others may
not and visa versa.
In my world, it is
called beauty.

Desert flowers

Some think the desert
is not the most beautiful
place to visit. Beauty can
be anywhere, just look
around, there is beauty
in everything. I came
across a cactus with
large yellow flowers,
another with purple
ones. Stunning but not
to be reckoned with.
Then i wonder, how
do the bats get in there
to pollinate them.
So many mysteries of
a desert environment,
i enjoy looking for
unique plants and flowers
then trying to find out about
them for there is beauty
in everything.

Yellow Flowers

As i stroll through
the desert i see a
beautiful bright
yellow bunch of
flowers. I could not
resist, i plucked them,
still admiring the odd
shape. I brought them
home and put them
in a container on
the counter though
feeling guilty for
taking them out of
the ground. I wondered
back a while later
and laughed so hard
i thought i would
burst. There were bugs
everywhere, all over
the area. As i cleaned
up the mess, i thought
to myself, this is what
you get for taking it
out of the ground. I
could see mother nature
give me a wink.
